Everyone feels differently about their battle scars. If reducing them is what you are after, we have a range of products that can help. We also have dressings that can be used in conjunction with radiotherapy treatment to help reduce skin reactions.

HOPE Recommendations

We have two main options for scars, either a silicone gel product or silicone sheets.

Stratamed® is a film-forming silicone gel-based wound dressing approved for use on open wounds. This can increase healing rates, and minimising abnormal scar formation. This can then be switched to Strataderm® - Scar Therapy Gel once the wound is healed, to soften and flatten raised scars, reduce itching, redness and discolouration.

Scar FX® self-adhering silicone scar sheets are designed to soften and flatten raised scars and come in a large range of shapes and sizes to cover different scar areas. We recommend using this in combination with ScarSil® Silicone Scar Gel, followed by Scar Esthetique®, a silicone base cream designed to lighten and brighten scars, once the scar is flat and smooth.
Mepiform®  is another alternative silicon sheet dressing that works to reduce hypertrophic and keloid scars.

The other dressings we keep are often used during or after radiotherapy, which can cause severe reactions to areas of the skin.  We carry Mepitel® Film dressing, which is a standard preventative treatment in many Radiation Oncology Centres, and is to be applied for the duration of your treatment. Mepilex® Lite can also be used to relieve symptoms of radiation reactions. A tape such as 3M™ Micropore™ Surgical Tape is very useful to use in conjunction with both the Scar FX® and Mepilex® Lite to keep them in place.
